The Victorians & Ambleside

Examine Ambleside in the 19th Century as a town built on water-powered industry,
 learn about the people and the conditions in which they lived.
  

Suitable for KS2/KS3

What the session includes:

Using material from the 1851 census, we will find out about the diversity of occupations, the size of families, places of origin and much more. The pupils will discover primary and secondary sources of evidence, reference tools and the difference between fact-based and opinion-based history.

As a Time Detective, the children will amass their own historical evidence from old photographs and artefacts and compare early maps to see how the area has grown. We will look at some of the main industries in the town and learn about the lives of local people

OPTIONS FOR KEY STAGE 3

An extra summer option is a walking workshop through old Ambleside looking at the buildings and making drawings based on the techniques of Ambleside artist William Green. (Suitable for KS3 & adults). (Covers elements of history, science, geography and art)
